Hey, Kentucky/Indiana/Ohio-ish Fitblrs*?
mr-smit:
*Still don’t like that word…
Anyway… For whatever reason I’m considering volunteering at (NOT DOING) Ironman Louisville this year. It’s August 26.
Anyone interested in making a weekend of it and doing a long run to train for Chicago? I’m looking at you @shortmom. I promise to buy you jingle bells.
And it isn’t restricted to fitblrs in those areas. I just can’t imagine people wanting...

Sometimes the Internet makes me feel so special and loved
Sometimes the Internet makes me feel more alone than I really am
Sometimes the Internet is a source of inspiration
Sometimes the Internet is a source of procrastination
Sometimes the Internet is the solution
Sometimes the Internet is the problem

WOD: Running
Plan was:
1M warm-up
8 x 1 min fast : 1.5 min recovery
1M cool-down
Actual was pretty spot-on. Perhaps the last 2 intervals might have had a 2 minute recovery between, and my cool-down was around 1.5 miles.
Today was tough, and definitely not my best intervals. Legs are tired, I feel like lead and all my sprints were almost timed perfectly with an incline except the...

Chicago 2012: Training Week 1 of 24 Recap
Really great first week of training! That’s a lot of green days. (Green = did as planned; Yellow = less than planned; Red = missed workout.)
Spending the first few weeks figuring out scheduling and how to make it all happen. There will be lots of 5 a.m. alarms. As the temps outside heat up, I’ll probably try and do all the runs in the morning and CF at lunch. I anticipate going to...
Max’s WOD: While I was sitting on my butt looking at tumblr, Max decided it was time for his workout!
Caught a few laps and words of wisdom on video.
New PR for him today: 150 laps NON-STOP!! I didn’t know he was going to do it, so no timer was started, but I think he ran over 20 minutes straight.
At lap 80: “I bet my heart is seriously beating. I won’t stop.”

WOD: Running 04.29.2012
An easy three-and-three around the block 4 times to get my sweat on. Why in the world do I sweat SO MUCH. Blargh. Awesome weather this morning — 51, sunny and breezy. Wish there was a petition I could sign somewhere to make Chicago do this on race day this year.
Mr. Shortmom is in the basement doing weights today. Super proud of him — he’s been in a bit of a rut I think...
@Moxy
You CAN do this. I took the pins out of your voodoo doll today. Just for today, though. I bought extra to stab in it tomorrow. ;-)
@brooksy
Your storm got here fast! Golf ball sized hail.

WOD: Hillary — 55:11
One of the CF members has been in the hospital and having health issues, so today was a fundraiser and WOD to help her out. So “Hillary” for time!
My modifications were: 300 singles instead of 100 double unders, 15” box instead of 20”, and I used the green+blue band on the pull-ups.
This was a super long workout.
WOD #2: Running 5M @...
Have a good race today!
I hope you pooped!
Doh!
Just looked at my plan for tomorrow. 6 mile run PLUS CrossFit = I stop at 2 glasses and won’t drink the whole bottle.
Getting out the CamelBak and following through on mr-smit and anna’s hydration nudge.
Math Question
Max asks: “What is 1 + 4 + googolplex + goolgolplex + 100?”

Warm-Up: Harness Sprints
In the spirit of the Kentucky Derby, we did harness sprints for today’s warm-up. Each person did 5 the length of the gym and back with a partner. It looked kind of like this, except we wrapped a band around each shoulder, then looped one through the middle right on the middle of the back:
Strength: Overhead Squats
5 sets of 2, so going for heavy. I don’t...

Pearl Izumi Streak II : Love Love Love
I’ve got about 100 miles on these shoes now, and I have to say I love them to death. What I love about them:
They fit like a glove — but be sure and order 1 full size up (I normally wear a 6.5 and buy a size 7 running shoe; I bought these in a 7.5 and they fit perfect)
They are minimalist without being toe shoes
Work great for both running and weightlifting
I believe they really...

WOD: Running 3M @ Marathon Pace (10:15 - 10:30)
Even though my quads are super sore from all the lunges, and even though it’s already 70 degrees out with 76% humidity — I still had trouble dialing it down a notch. This is a good thing for short runs, but would be detrimental on the longer ones.
Finally a song got stuck in my head that seemed to have the right pace: Fugazi’s...

Taco Soup Recipe
For @strivingtothrive
Leave out the beans, and it’s “paleo” I believe. I just scrounged up what I had on hand in the kitchen:
1 lb ground beef
1 can spicy Rotel Tomatoes
1 can tomatoes, corn and okra
1 can dark red kidney beans, drained
Diced baby portabella mushrooms
1 package taco seasoning
What I wished I had:
Diced onion
Diced bell pepper
Mexi cheese and diced...

WOD #2: Running
An easy three-and-three around the block 4 times. IT Band super tight and ouchy at the end. I’ll be rollin’ it out RR-style in a bit.
Felt good to flush out my legs from all the lunges this morning. Good practice for running on empty and in the sun.
It’s only 63 and sunny right now. I can’t believe we made it through Chicago last year in the 80’s...

WIW: 134.2
Now we’re talkin’. The past few days I’ve been inspired by @fat-to-fast. When I go to grab any food I ask myself, “Are you hungry?” 8 times out of 10, I am not! Usually, it turns out I’m thirsty or just wandering around.
Last weigh-in on 4/4: 136.2
4/25: 134.2 (down 2 lbs!)
Body fat: 31.0% (down 0.6%)
Being able to actually run again has really helped, too!

WOD: CrossFit 04.25.2012
Warm Up:
7 minutes of:
30 seconds jump rope
15 sit-ups
20 mountain climbers
Strength:
Push Jerk — 4 sets of 6 reps. Mine were:
33# bar
43#
63#
73# (she put 70# on the board, depends on what you say the bar weighs, I guess)
First time doing push jerks, and I didn’t start heavy enough. Now I have a baseline. Probably could have gone 10-15# heavier for doing 6 reps.

Fridays are the actual rest day / optional. Creating a plan around CrossFit’s 3 on : 1 off schedule was difficult! Mostly borrowed from the Higdon 3 plan posted earlier by ???? (I forgot who it was — but thanks!!).
Basically, the plan is run a lot and then run some more. Nothing new except instead of Upper and Lower body workouts, I’ve got CF.
Geopalz Pedometer for Kids
Does anyone have the Geopalz pedometer for their kid? Have any feedback / thoughts about it?

Beef Pot Pie Recipe
This is for @kirbydoeslife
I’m pretty embarrassed about this recipe because there are convenience foods involved. Usually, I cook everything from scratch — so this was pretty weird for me.
On impulse, I bought CANNED roast beef from Costco the other day. I know, gross — right?!! Also, I had a pre-made pie crust (Pillsbury) left over from birthday fixings the other day.

Strength: Deadlifts
4 x 10 reps, I did:
83#
103#
113#
133#
And it wasn’t too tough. Lower back is still sore from all the digging in the yard yesterday, though. Watched a guy do over 400#. Couldn’t decide if it was awesome or stupid. Next time we do 10s, I might start 5 or 10 lbs heavier.

WOD #2 = 3.3 mile run
Warm-up of about 9 minutes, then 5 intervals of 2 min fast : 2 min recovery.
Had to burn off some chocolate pudding I ate while making a pie for my mom and husband’s birthday dinner tonight.
Weekend warrior mode in full effect. Eating has been spot on and no wine, plus 2 WODs!!!

WOD: CrossFit 04.21.2012
Did the WOD first, then Strength because there were a lot of people.
WOD:
Row: We had a choice between run and row. Since I run so much, I opted for the row. Tried to keep my pace at or below 2:00 and it was tough. Only my second time rowing.
Thrusters: I did these with an empty 33# bar. I tried to start with 53#, but the row kind of toasted my legs and I was tipping to one side. Since it...
Focus
Max is at Tae Kwon Do today. My mom just sent me the following message and pictures that we can all learn from:
Today’s lesson is about “focus”. Mrs T tried to make each one laugh. Max so locked himself down really tight. See how he is hunched over? I think she may have finally given up. It was a full class today. He worked really hard.
He won! Last man standing. I can...
