Return of the weekend long runs in the sauna
Looking at the upcoming forecast, I remember why I declared last year to never do another Fall marathon. You jerks!! :-)
Some things to keep in mind:
Did you buy a Road ID? If you did, remember that you have to WEAR IT!
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!! And a hat.
File a flight plan with your family or a friend.
- Let someone know your route you plan on running
- Leave a note or txt and let them know what time you should return (since you’ll be leaving at the butt crack of dawn when they are asleep).
Carry pepper spray. This is why. Plus crazy dogs.
Take lots of water and Nuun, or stash it along your route before you go.
Invest in salt tabs, like Hammer Endurolytes.
Slow down! Your body is trying to keep you cool and alive by borrowing all that blood from your muscles and giving it to your skin. There’s a reason you run slower in the heat!
