WOD: CrossFit 06.22.2012

To be honest, when I saw the WOD posted last night I was really afraid to go in. Fridays are my “optional” workout days, so my bargain with myself was if I got up and wasn’t hurting anywhere I would go. Damn if I didn’t get up and feel just fine.
Big thanks to the coach for a great 20 minute warm-up session that was all mobility. All my muscles are super tight and really needed that.
Strength: Overhead Squat
3 x 12: He made a point to tell us NOT to max out on these. The goal here was to build up stabilizers and work on form. And guess what?!! NO HIP PAIN TODAY!!!
- 43#
- 53#
- 63#
WOD: “Josh”
I went with 55# for the overhead squats and a blue band (or was it purple?) for the pull-ups. I honestly didn’t think I would be able to complete this WOD when I read it because of all the pull-ups. My confidence is through the roof after finishing this (and my hands are a bit nasty looking).
- 21 overhead squats
- 42 pull-ups
- 15 overhead squats
- 30 pull-ups
- 9 overhead squats
- 18 pull-ups
I’m sure the coach could have finished this in about 5 minutes. I finished in 15:05, but don’t really care about my time. I finished it!
If we weren’t snatching from the floor and if I had a 35# bar, I could have done the 65# on the OH squats. I didn’t run fast enough to grab a ladies bar, so the lighter weight with a wider bar is more of a challenge for me to balance. This is a good thing since it helps strengthen the core. I really need to work on my snatch. And yes, that’s what she said.
On the middle set of pull-ups, a guy next to me said: “Who the hell is Josh and why does he like pull-ups so much?” My response: “A fallen soldier.” Dude shut up real quick and got back to work.
