WOD: Running 05.29.2013

Something woke me at 5:30 or some crap, couldn’t fall back to sleep. Got up, drank coffee and hit the road for some intervals. I actually do 6 every time, but I just have my watch programmed for 5. Need to fix that. I wish my foot would quit hurting. It’s still got some kind of tendonitis or whatever in the arch and it burrrrrns.

I have to run more often if I want to keep up with these other fitbit peeps!

#4 is Shortgrandma — I can barely keep up with her. She’ll pass me by 10:00 this morning, I’m sure!

Tough crowd!!

WOD: Running 05.23.2013

This morning, I remembered I had the ability to get up a little earlier and get a run in before the day begins.  Grateful for my husband who helps get Max up and ready in the mornings.  Can’t imagine being a single parent.

Legs reallllly needed this good recovery after all those squats yesterday.

I think I need to measure my stride and use a custom setting for my fitbit. I’ve tested it twice while running, and it must think I take baby steps:

I’ll have to do a walk and run stride test and take some measurements. The alternative is maybe putting in the settings that I’m a little taller? I haven’t verified walk distance against it, just running. Might do a Garmin test with it tomorrow for a walk.

Nice to be at 80% steps before the day even gets started, though! Now that I’m through a solid week with it, I can tell that 10k is almost too easy a target for me. So each week I’ll be moving the goal up by 1k until it feels like I’m really needing to make some effort to get my steps in.

WOD #2: iRUNy (you’ll see what I did there, and it has nothing to do with the smits)

So I got some new kicks while in Indy, and I’ve been itching to try them out (Nike LunarSpeed+):

My mom came and picked up the puker and took him to TKD (poor dude, sick again today), so I have 1.5 hrs to do what I want!

After swooning, swooning, swooning and swooning some more, I decided to take them out for a test drive.

Went outside and stood on the porch. Syncing the Garmin, look down and LO AND BEHOLD! Gifts from the Internet!

“Cool! I’ll open it when I get back!” I thought to myself, as I started running on this beautiful, sunny day.

One mile in, and the irony begins. In come the clouds and down comes the rain! Buckets and buckets of rain. There’s a rain jacket in that envelope, and I knew it. Haha! But it felt so wonderful and everything smelled so wonderful and runner’s high is pretty high and so I kept going.

I kept going because those people I swooned over today didn’t quit. And YOU didn’t quit, and YOU didn’t quit and YOU haven’t quit, and neither have YOU (yes YOU).

Within a mile, I knew I was going out too fast. And then I realized that there is no such thing. If you feel like you are going out too fast, it is because you are ready to go faster.

Those of whom obtain our swoonage didn’t do so by going out in the easy gear all the time. They kick it up a notch, and then take it up a bit more. So I dug in and breathed hard, exactly how I felt 5 years ago when I started c25k.

And as I ran, even Pandora decided to load on the irony:

  • Tool’s Aenema came on (“learn to swim … learn to swim …” Oh yes, Mother Nature is really getting even with me right now!)
  • Kid Cudi’s Day and Night (reminding me that I’m running alone and not with the Internets any more and he talks about the loner putting on his white Nikes)
  • Kings of Leon Ragoo (singing of that night we had a ball, barefoot running and caught with your pants down (Michael))

Needless to say, it was a perfect run and it reminded me of all of you and how much you make me swoon and make me want to be a healthier person and a better person and this is how I will cheer for you in my brand new awesome rain jacket:

Thank you, Amy!!!

Running: Indy Mini 05.04.2013

My splits from Saturday. It’s neat to see the track on the Garmin stats! It was from miles 6-8 I believe.

Walked through 5 water stops for about 10-30 sec each. Knew I wouldn’t PR because of lack of training and a gazillion people, so I didn’t try to keep pushing too hard. Goal was just to keep running, and I did!

This is a really great race, and I’d highly recommend it. Course support and entertainment was spot on and the course itself is super flat. Just practice dodging through crowds or get seeded up front and it would be an easy PR race, weather permitting.

WOD: All The Things! 04.23.2013

I usually go to the 7 a.m. yoga on Tuesdays, but my cats woke me up at 5:30 so I just hustled on down for the 6 a.m. WOD as well.

Strength:

5x3 Push Press @ 75#, 85#, 95#, 105#, 115#

5x3 Power Clean @ 53#, 73#, 83#, ran out of time

WOD:

4 Rounds for Time of:

  • 5-Hang Squat Cleans (155/105) scaled to 83#
  • 7-HSPU’s
  • 9-GHD Situps

12:43 — I kept getting stuck on the cleans on the first 2 rounds; last 2 rounds were much better.

YOGA:

Got bendy. I think the sanskrit for it was ashnakashapretzelasha.

RUNNING:

Just so you guys don’t think I actually think running is stupid and makes you fat, or that short people can’t run. (And actually because I’ll be encountering someone’s birthday cake this evening.)

WOD: Running 04.17.2013

Re-did the intervals from a couple of days ago this morning. Back is much better now and no walking on the recoveries. Weather was perfect after the storms last night.

4n4: Saw 129.2 this morning! Seems that $3170 is enough to keep my hands out of the almonds.

Other people doing 4n4 — did you know butter goes straight through you? It’s virtually calorie free!!! ;-)

For Boston

Garmin dropped 0.5 on me, I ran 5 for Boston today.

Everywhere I looked, I saw Americana and my heart ached for the peace and normalcy of it all:

  • two little girls playing fetch with a dog
  • high school boys playing basketball on a driveway
  • people doing yardwork
  • an elderly couple walking together
  • flags waving
  • runners running
